Where Did You Come From? - Lesson 8

One day you will probably be taught in school that all human beings came from a lower form of animal life, such as apes or monkeys. That is called "The Theory of Evolution." It is the opposite of what the Bible says about man. It is just a theory but it does not give God credit for creating man as the Bible teaches. The Bible has the only true answer about human life. It is God’s inspired word about wondrous things on this planet. We have all read the Bible stories about things like the Great Flood, like a man so strong (Samson) he could pull down great buildings. We have been told how Jesus walked on the water, and how dead men were raised to life. These things do not really happen except in the Bible, because they are real miracles. Miracles no longer happen but because they do not this does not man that they never happened. What the Bible says is true; God does not lie; the Bible is His Word.

The Bible begins with the story of Creation. The Bible does not introduce God. It simply states that He existed even before the beginning. It was in the beginning that He created the world. How do we know that God exists? Well, there are several reasons. First, and simplest of all, the Bible says so. "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light" (Gen. 1:1-3).

There is no other book like the Bible. It was written over a 2000 year period by 40 different men of all walks of life, in 3 languages and everything in it agees perfectly. The Bible tells of things that would happen later than when they were told and all of it came true. This is called prophecy.

The Bible is a very old book. It is always right about history or science. This is not true of any other book ever written by men. God gave the world His word, the Bible and He exists!

Everything God made shows He really does exist. God is very real. Without God there is no way to really know where everything come from? Wood cannot create itself. Dirt doesn’t create itself. Water does not create water. Man cannot create man from nothing. God created everything.

Some scientists say that the world was made out of matter and energy which can create itself out of little invisible things that no one has ever seen. They can't prove it. Not many people really believe them, not even other scientists. The universe has not always been here. Everything in the world grows old and dies, even the stars. Where then did it come from? There must be a someone or something powerful enough to make this universe. Who could it be but God?

The universe runs like a ticking clock. All the planets and stars move just so, and plants and animals and nature live in perfect harmony. Everything in the world provides what is needed somewhere else. This is called balance. How did things get to be so balanced, so perfect? Some scientists say that everything came from a big ball of fire called the Big Bang. They don’t know where the big ball of fire came from and they don’t believe in God so they made up this theory. Their theory is that the big fire ball cooled off and stars and planets came out of it.

On our planet, some scientists say there was an ocean and in that first warm ocean a tiny cell was formed. Do you know what a cell is? A cell is a very, very small part of living things. Some scientists say this cell slowly changed over millions of years, evolving first into microbes. A microbe is a very tiny thing, like germs or bacteria. This microbe then turned into animals like fish, snakes, monkeys, and finally man. This is called evolution. This is all supposed to have happened by luck or chance. Scientists say there is no God, so they think life just happened. That is not the truth. Something so perfect cannot come from chance or pure luck The world and everything in it and around it cannot come from evolution, without the help of God.

Nothing perfect comes from chance. If you tossed a handful of pennies into the air what is the chance that they all will land face up in a perfectly straight row? You could try it thousands of times and it might never happen. What about throwing a barrel of pennies, or a million pennies into the air? Evolution is just like throwing pennies. For evolution to be true, millions and millions of things must happen just right for everything to be perfect and in balance. But what are the chances it will ever happen? ZERO!

That leaves only one answer -- God. An intelligent person can line pennies up face up in a perfectly straight line. When we see something done on purpose and made on purpose, we know that someone was behind it. A beautiful painting is made by a painter, not by paint appearing out of nowhere by itself and falling just right on the canvas. Cars are made in a factories. Metal does not just happen to be in the right shapes to fit itself together. Only foolish people believe that this how the world was made. David said in Psalms 19: 1 "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth his handiwork." When we see a perfectly made universe, we know that it had a perfect Maker.

Christians believe in a God because they see what God made (Rom. 1: 20, Heb. 11: 2). They see that something had to come first, and that something is God. They see that God’s word is true (John 17: 17), and that it says the world was created by a miracle in six days. To some it may sound silly, but only to those who believe in evolution and the Big Bang. Evolution is much sillier than anything anyone could ever come up with.

Belief in God’s word is called faith. Even though we can’t see God, or how He created the world, we believe anyway. That is called faith, and faith is the evidence of things we cannot see (Hebrews 11: 1). God loved us so much that He has made us a universe in which we can live. He has given us His word, the Bible, to read. That is enough proof for anyone. The proof IS there. It is more reasonable to believe in God and His word than not to believe. Use your brain and your heart, regardless of what anyone may try to tell you.

Questions for Study:

1. What is meant by "Evolution?"

2. Do you think the Bible and the theory of evolution are different, the same, or nearly the same?

3. What is a miracle? Do you think miracles still happen?

4. What makes the Bible different than all other books? Does this prove God exists?

5. Read Romans 1:20 again. What makes the "invisible things from the creation of the world" understood?

6. Read Hebrews 11:3 again. What do we understand the worlds were made from?

7. What is faith?

8. What do you think is a good answer to those who say the material things in the world created themselves?

9. From the illustration about tossing pennies into the air, what are the chances that the worlds were made by chance or luck?

Fill in the Blanks:

Heb. 11:3: "Through __________ we understand that the worlds were framed by the ______ ___ _____, so that things which are seen were ___ made of things which do appear."

The Bible was written over a period of _______ years, by ___ men in ______ languages.

Gen. 1:1: "In the ___________ God __________ the heaven and the earth."
